Knoxville's #1 Choice Of

Deck Contractors

High Quality Deck Construction

Your backyard can be the outdoor kingdom of your dreams. Adding a deck not only raises the value of your home, it also raises your spirits. A well designed deck becomes the living space where you can enjoy outdoor activities in nice weather with your friends and family.

You can sunbathe in private on your deck. You can read, BBQ, or simply hang out with friends on a gorgeous summer day. If part of your deck is covered, instead of being stuck inside the house, you can step outside and enjoy the cool breeze that only seems to happen in the summer when it rains here in East Tennessee.

Perhaps you don’t want the responsibility of maintaining outside wood structures – the splinters, the termites, the warping, the rot, the expense! Well, now you can have the best of both worlds! Call King’s Fencing or Request A Quote to build or replace your existing deck. We offer composite decking products that look like real wood but without the warping, splintering, or damage from bugs that can occur with traditional wood over time.

What's Best for My Knoxville Deck Construction?

Composite VS Treated Wood

When it comes to outdoor living spaces, there’s no denying the appeal of great deck designs. However, there’s a choice to be made about which material is right for the job. The two most popular materials are pressure treated wood and composite decking materials.

So, what exactly are these two materials? To start, pressure treated wood undergoes a chemical process that helps the wood withstand the varying elements of weather. It also helps to ward off insects, microorganisms, and fungal decay. During the pressure treating process, wood is also saturated with a water-soluble chemical. Composite decking material, however, typically consists of various types of plastic combined with wood particles. Because it’s made up of a considerable amount of plastic, composite decking will not succumb to rot or insect damage.

Still, which of these two is right for you? To help you better evaluate which material will best fit your new deck, we are going to compare the two materials in two major categories: Upkeep and Cost

Composite Decks

King’s Fencing and Decking offers the low maintenance, durable option of composite materials for your deck. We can build with a number of products, but primarily use products from Timbertec and Azek. These products come with manufacturer limited lifetime warranties to protect your investment, ranging from 25 to 50 years, as well as fade and stain warranties. They also require significantly less upkeep than standard wood decks, so you can spend more time enjoying your deck than worrying about maintenance.

UPKEEP – Although very durable, composite decking still requires some maintenance as it’s still susceptible to the outdoor elements. For composite material decks, no refinishing is required, but the materials can become hosts for mold if they are not cleaned at least every three or four years.

COST – When compared to pressure treated wood, the cost to construct a composite deck can be double the price; however, it’s the durability of this material that makes it worth every penny for homeowners. A deck made of composite material can last up to 50 years. Finishing touches like fascia boards, railings, balusters, treads, posts, etc can be made in the same color & material, creating a cohesive design.

Wood Decks

Wood is a timeless choice for your deck. While pressure treated pine is the most common choice for wood decks, we also offer cedar, ipe, garapa, camaru, and tigerwood. Wood decks require regular maintenance as well as stains and sealants to preserve them. The frequency of the upkeep will depend on how much sun and shade your deck receives throughout the day. An upside to choosing traditional wood is that the sealants and stains come in a variety of styles and colors, so you can keep the style fresh for years to come.

UPKEEP – Wood deck designs require more upkeep than composite decks and will need to be sealed and stained. We recommend sealing and staining the wood every year—just half the maintenance of a natural wood deck.

COST – A deck constructed with pressure-treated wood, although a popular and cost-effective option, unfortunately falls short in terms of longevity. In fact, it may only provide you with a lifespan of approximately 10-15 years, if that, and to compound matters, it comes without any warranty. We believe in offering our customers peace of mind and a lasting investment, which is why at King’s Fencing, we strive to construct a deck that meets your needs and matches your lifestyle.

Frequently Asked Questions

The cost of a fence depends upon several factors. The main determining factors consist of what type of fence material is selected, the style of fence being built, what type and how many gates are installed, and, of course, how many linear feet of fence is required. (Linear footage is calculated by measuring the perimeter of the area that the fence will be built on.) For privacy fences, pressure-treated pine is the most economical material choice. When your backyard backs up against your neighbor’s yard, you’ll want a privacy fence with a height that gives you the most privacy. Usually, this can be accomplished with a 6ft height. But we can do height transitions higher or lower than 6ft in order to give you more privacy or more view depending on your preference.

If your backyard does not back up against a neighbor, but to a green space or pond, our aluminum fence is a popular choice. Your yard may be perfect for a picket fence or a chain link fence if privacy is not a priority.

The land rights may vary in your area. So, it may be necessary to check with your local tax assessor’s office office. However, the ownership of an existing fence is typically the same owner of the land for which the fence is installed upon. We do not conduct any property surveys nor do we imply property lines. If there is an existing fence, you should check with your neighbors to be certain the fence is yours. When there is doubt, it may be necessary to hire a survey company to mark the property lines.

Our pine fencing products are pressure-treated to make them resistant to insects, rot, and damage. However, our cedar fencing is naturally resistant to insects, rot, and decay. Therefore, cedar fences do not usually require pressure treatment.

When fences are installed using pre-fabricated panels, fencing slopes and irregular ground levels can be difficult to properly fence. You will usually get large gaps at the bottom areas and uneven capping.

We do NOT use pre-fabricated fence panels. We build custom fences. Custom fences (or stick-built fences) allow us to better follow the lay-of-the-land (topography) and gives a much smoother transition. We can include custom transitions as an upgrade to your fence installation.

The turnaround time for fence installation depends on several factors such as type of fence, length of fence to be installed, and site conditions. Project time would also be affected by the removal of any existing fence if required. Usually, our installation takes 2 days here in East Tennessee. If we’re also removing an old fence, the total time would be 3 to 4 days. Please ask your sales representative for scheduling details.

Every fence we offer includes a 5 year warranty that provides you with coverage against workmanship or installation errors to guarantee the optimal performance of your fence investment.

We’re located in Knoxville, but we install fences and complete deck construction projects in the New Tazewell, Loudon, and Gatlinburg areas. You can also see our complete service areas in the footer of our website.

Compared to wood, vinyl fencing is much stronger. Vinyl fencing is flexible and durable, which helps vinyl out-perform wood fencing in windy conditions and with environmental exposure to UV rays and weather.
